A good translator of poetry rewrites himself in the translated text. The translation of poetry differs a lot from all other texts.
            When I first started the national contest "Lidia Vianu Translates", I thought I could translate anything, as long as I was willing to work hard. I must have been wrong. No jury in the world can choose the poets that a translator can empathise with.
            Leaving aside all literary criticism, choosing the winners of the competition with my poetic instinct, I find myself in this book translating the lines that I could have written myself. These poets speak to me. I am confident they will also touch the hearts of their English readers.

            Un translator cu har se rescrie pe sine în traducerea unui poem. Traducerea de poezie nu se aseamănă cu niciun alt text.
            Atunci când am pornit concursul național „Lidia Vianu Translates”, gândeam că pot traduce orice, câtă vreme am voința și inteligența să muncesc pe text. Acum știu că mă înșelam. Niciun juriu din lume nu poate alege acei poeți anume cu care traducătorul poate să empatizeze.
            Lăsând la o parte impulsul de critic literar, am adunat acest volum, care este alcătuit din poemele primilor cinci câștigători, aleși de mine. Traduc în aceste pagini versuri pe care probabil mi–ar fi plăcut să le scriu eu. Cu un dram de noroc, ele vor ajunge și la sufletul cititorilor englezi.
