In mid–June this year, the Republic of Ireland celebrated with great pomp and circumstance William Butler Yeats's anniversary. In honour of the poet, playwright and, last but not least, the great politician that he was, having been Senator of the country for many years, we are now publishing an autobiographical volume.

The Trembling of the Veil is by no means the first book by an Irish writer that Contemporary Literature Press has published. One of our books was Oscar Wilde's Salomé. Another one was Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels. The focus of our research, however, has been, and still is, the most prominent, and also the most controversial of them all: James Joyce, the writer who was born Irish and died European. (We have dedicated to him A Manual for the Advanced Study of  Finnegans Wake in 121 Volumes.

In 1923, William Butler Yeats was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. That happened one year after the the simultaneous publication of T.S. Eliot's Waste Land and James Joyce's Ulysses. During the same year 1922, Yeats himself published The Trembling of the Veil. Yeats knew Oscar Wilde personally, and he also befriended Ezra Pound. In 1902, he met James Joyce. At the age of thirty–seven, Yeats was commonly accepted as an important figure of Irish letters. Joyce walked up to him in the street one day, and introduced himself. He told the great poet that he, Joyce, had only written one little book, but his book owed nothing to anything but his own mind. He concluded: "I am twenty. How old are you?" Yeats told him, and Joyce continued with a sigh, "I thought as much. I have met you too late. You are too old."'

By publishing The Trembling of the Veil, we are trying to make a point that Joyce may have been too young to see: even 150 years after his birth, William Butler Yeats is still read and admired, and this is all that matters.

Ediție online

Anunță publicarea Volumului

William Butler Yeats—150 Years since His Birth
The Trembling of the Veil
1922

Editat de
 C. George Sandulescu și Lidia Vianu

ISBN 978-606-760-010-0

(A Manual for the Advanced Study of  Finnegans Wake in 121 Volumes îi este dedicat.)

În anul 1923, William Butler Yeats a primit Premiul Nobel pentru Literatură. Cu numai un an înainte, în 1922, apăruseră simultan The Waste Land de T.S. Eliot și Ulysses de James Joyce. Yeats însuși publicase în 1922 The Trembling of the Veil.
