On the last day of March, Contemporary Literature Press is publishing a book of poems written by Sonja Besford in English—the language of Great Will, and also of the enigmatic James Joyce. This book takes place in Serbia, as a matter of fact. Each poem is a moment in history, and the whole book conveys the tragedy of an unflinching nation.

The translation into Romanian is also the début of a graduate student of the MA Programme for the Translation of the Contemporary Literary Text, Miruna Voican. The vibrant, tragic poems of a writer who left Belgrade only to write about it from London could not have wished for a better mediator. Romanian readers know all too well what this book is all about. What they do not know from experience is the tragedy of the Serbs' recent history. What they do understand, no doubt, is the sadness that life takes more and more of them farther and farther away from the place they were born in. This poet born in March—if what her last poem in this book says is true—longs for her native land just as much as the Romanians who find themselves scattered all over this world dream about theirs.

Publicăm la acest sfârșit de Mărțișor o carte de poezie scrisă de Sonja Besford în limba engleză—limba Marelui Will și a Enigmaticului James Joyce. Această carte, însă, ne vine din Belgrad, de fapt. Ea este o istorie vie a sârbilor. Fiecare poem este o scenă, iar peste toate întâmplările plutește tragedia unui popor dârz, mândru, și totuși îngenuncheat.

Volumul Sonjei Besford este debutul în traducerea de poezie al Mirunei Voican, studentă a Masteratului pentru Traducerea Textului Literar Contemporan. Poemele pline de viață, de curaj și de jale ale scriitoarei care a părăsit Belgradul pentru a continua să scrie despre el la Londra, nu–și puteau găsi un interpret mai bun. Spunem acest lucru pentru că amintirea verilor evocate de poetă seamănă în mare măsură cu amintirile cititorului român. Ceea ce–i desparte pe români de sârbi este istoria recentă. Ceea ce–i apropie este tristețea că viața îi duce tot mai departe de locul unde s–au născut. Dorul de țară al acestei poete născute în martie (dacă putem da crezare ultimului poem din volum) este și dorul de țară al românilor din ce în ce mai răspândiți pe drumurile lumii întregi.
