Contemporary Literature Press,
under The University of Bucharest, in conjunction with The British Council, The Romanian Cultural Institute and The Embassy of Ireland,

Announces the publication of

English—Romanian Dictionary
Dicționar englez—român

of Technical and Mathematical Terms
de termeni tehnici și matematici

by Brândușa Răileanu.

(ISBN 978-606-8366-41-8 )

By publishing the present book, the Contemporary Literature Press opens, in more senses than one, a new series of publications, namely that of specialized, as well as general-knowledge dictionaries with a non-literary character. For instance, the dictionary which we are publishing here is dedicated, among others, to mathematics. It is the work of highly specialized experts in the field, and we hope that it will prove to be of great use to both professionals and non-professionals who may be in need of the information it contains.

Dictionaries are difficult to write, and never easy to consult, because in many cases there are variations of terminology, or of mere linguistic expression. There will be, we hope, a lot more dictionaries to come in the future from our publishing house, and we are open to suggestions from the public in point of both ideas as to what to publish, and in point of ready-made manuscripts proposed for publication by us.

Dictionaries are by definition reference books, and, as such, very serious things, not at all the kind of toys one often comes across on the internet. That is why we publish in book-form only, always in a format that can be most easily carried over on paper.

Dr Brândușa Răileanu, author of this book, holds her degrees from the University of Bucharest. She is currently employed as a lecturer at the Bucharest Polytechnical Institute. In compiling this dictionary, she has had the beneficial support of close cooperation with Dr Constantin Udriște, leading figure of Romanian mathematics, well known internationally for his scientific expertise, and Dr Vladimir Răsvan, prestigious professor specialised in the field of automatics, computer science and engineering.

The dictionary contains 8,500 fairly recent terms, and a long list of current abbreviations in the fields of engineering and mathematics. For the less familiar terms, it offers explanations, as is the case of:

modular structure - s.

Besides the fact that this book clarifies meanings, it also brings up to date the Romanian language used in mathematics and engineering.

You may wish to go through the book yourselves, even if engineering or mathematics are not your forte, since, after all, as Anatole France said as far back as the early 1890's, "Un dictionnaire, c'est tout l'univers par ordre alphabétique."

Comunicat de Presă
București, 18 februarie 2013

Ediție online

Contemporary Literature Press,
sub auspiciile următoarelor foruri: Universitatea din București, The British Council, Institutul Cultural Român  și Ambasada Irlandei,

Anunță publicarea volumului

English—Romanian Dictionary
Dicționar englez—român

of Technical and Mathematical Terms
de termeni tehnici și matematici

de Brândușa Răileanu.

(ISBN 978-606-8366-41-8 )
