Bucurii din Purley
Peter Ackroyd

Traducere, prefaţă, interviu: Lidia Vianu

Poetry is levitation. Ackroyd teaches us to leave the world and gain a thousand more universes, to transcend pain by blending knowledge and tenderness, till we can say like him, “the mind is the soul.”

The root of Ackroyd's dystopic after-modernism lies in the fact that he is

detached from life yet needing it
(there are so...)

He needs his life to write and he writes in order to make life bearable, to reassure himself, his “sole self” (the empty telephone). The reason why he needs life is to write down his tenderness, which is the meaning of his creation.
